Cinnamon roll
What does “Cinnamon roll” mean?
A cinnamon roll is a sweet, gentle, good-hearted character, often described as too good for this world. Fans use the term affectionately for heroes who are kind, earnest and a little soft, and who deserve to be protected. A popular variation is the cinnamon roll who could kill you, a sweet guy who is also very capable.
What makes someone a cinnamon roll
Cinnamon roll characters are warm and sincere. They apologize too much, remember birthdays, feed people and cheer for everyone. They are not naive, exactly. They have simply chosen kindness, often after a hard past.
In romance, a cinnamon roll hero is the opposite of the morally grey type. The tension does not come from danger. It comes from his own self-doubt, outside obstacles, or the heroine learning to accept being loved this gently.
The term comes from internet fandom, where fans started calling sweet characters cinnamon rolls as a playful way of saying they were precious. It spread to book communities and is now common in reviews and recommendations for gentle heroes.
Cinnamon roll versus golden retriever
The two overlap. A golden retriever boyfriend is energetic, loyal and openly affectionate. A cinnamon roll is softer and more tender. Many heroes are both. The cinnamon roll who could kill you adds a twist, like a giant hockey player who knits.

Austin apologizes to doors. Hiro, a voice actor, makes soda bread on Sundays and gives most of it to his neighbors. Teo leaves food labeled for you.
