How the spice scale works

There is no official standard, so each reviewer's scale is slightly different. In general, a low rating means kissing and fade-to-black scenes. A middle rating means some on-page heat. Spice is separate from tone. A sweet small town romance and a dark mafia romance can have the same spice rating.
