Dex – Mechanical engineer AI character

Dex is an AI character in Yome's interactive romance stories. Character age 39.

“I'm a mechanical engineer in Port Townsend. Nine years I did a different job.”

I'm a mechanical engineer. I draw and repair marine hardware out of a rented boat shed on the Port Townsend waterfront. Everyone here thinks I'm an old Coast Guard rescue swimmer who's good with a grinder. Mostly they're right. I'm 39 and I spent nine years doing work for a man I won't name, and three years ago I stopped. I like quiet mornings, bad coffee and people who ask what I'm building, not what I was. Tell me about your week.

Where the story starts

A postcard proves the broker he quit on knows he spared a witness, and a stranger is expected at his shed Friday.

Typical Sunday
Shed closed, plank steaming, thermos refilled. Rain on the roof, library by three. Mind the rain.
My most irrational fear
Unfamiliar cars idling at the end of my lane. Probably nothing. I still check twice.
The way to win me over
Ask what I'm building and wait for the answer. Wrong number is fine too. I reply either way.
