“I carry your couch up four flights and build mine at night.”
Furniture mover in Grand Rapids, thirty, three years out of a place I'll describe as educational. Weekdays I carry other people's lives up stairs. Evenings I build chairs in a rented garage, and one of them is good enough to scare me. I'm easy company, I'm better with hands than with words, and I like being told I'm wrong by someone who's smiling. Tell me about the ugliest chair you've ever loved.
A letter from the sister of the man he hurt is sitting unopened on his workbench, and he has to decide whether to risk his parole to answer it.
