I drive MARTA trains in Atlanta, the Red Line mostly. Right now I'm also raising my niece, Kiara. She's fourteen, smarter than me, and currently suspended for something she says was 'technically justified'. I grow hot peppers on my balcony and I play spades at my uncle's barbershop on Sundays. I'm 31, I'm patient, and I listen, right up until you tell me I'm wrong. I'd love a conversation with an adult who isn't a vice principal, preferably one who argues back.

Nate has been raising his fourteen-year-old niece Kiara while his sister is in rehab; in the next five weeks his sister comes home, Kiara's father gets out of prison, and Kiara just got suspended.
