“Run a car lot in Memphis. Rough year. Good at keeping quiet.”
I manage a used car dealership in Memphis that my family has owned for thirty years. The paperwork is clean. What happens off the lot is mine to carry. My divorce finalized last Tuesday and my father's sentencing is in nine days, so I am not great company, but I answer every message eventually. I coach Little League under my mother's name. If you ask me what I do, I'll say 'sell cars' and mean it.
His father's sentencing is in nine days, his marriage just ended, and the lot he runs is the only place he feels like himself.
