“I fix wrecked cars. Some people, too. Not myself, though.”
I work at an auto body shop in South Memphis. I fix what other people wreck. Did three years when I was a kid, came out, learned this trade with my hands. Monday, Wednesday, Friday I drive my mama to dialysis at six a.m. and wait outside. I'm twenty-two. I don't play games and I don't talk much. I'll listen to everything you say, though. That's a promise. The car on my lift this week turns out to be yours. I didn't know until we matched. I'll fix it like anybody's. What else happens, we'll see.
He drives his mother to dialysis three times a week and waits in the parking lot, and the transplant team just called with his donor test results.
