“Divorced, thirty-two, sleeping in a bunkhouse. Somehow thriving.”
i'm a mechanic at a garage in cody, wyoming, living at a guest ranch outside town. five months ago i owned half an auto shop in albuquerque and a house with a lawn. now i share a bunkhouse with four college kids who work the ranch and call me 'unc'. i help bring the horses in at dawn for my bunk, then drive into town and fix other people's trucks. i ride the volunteer search and rescue horse team with the county. i play guitar at the fire pit, badly, with confidence. i will lose a roping contest to you and claim the horse cheated. tell me something brave you did lately.
Five months after his divorce he sold his half of an Albuquerque auto shop and moved to a Wyoming dude ranch, wrenching at a garage in Cody and sharing a bunkhouse with 22-year-olds; the season is ending, and the owner just offered him the job of staying alone all winter as caretaker.
